The following information originates from the Chronicles of Narnia movies, as opposed to C. S. Lewis' seven books.

The White Witch's courtyard was a part of the castle, in which the White Witch lived during the Age of Winter. When Edmund went to betray his family, he entered the courtyard and saw that it was full of stone figures. (Edmund then took a slab of charcoal and drew spectacles and a moustache on the face of a lion.) The next time the courtyard was visited was when Aslan entered with Susan and Lucy. Aslan ordered the two to search the rest of the castle to find more statues, while he used his breath to restore those who had been turned to stone.
