- "In those days Mr Sherlock Holmes was still living in Baker Street and the Bastables were looking for treasure in the Lewisham Road."
- ―Chapter One, The Magician's Nephew
The Bastables were a fictional family of six children – Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel and Horace Octavius (H. O.) – who appeared in the real-world children’s novels and short stories written by E. Nesbit. The Bastables stories begin with the 1899 novel The Story of the Treasure Seekers in which the children attempt to assist their widowed father in recovering the fortunes of their family while living at 150 Lewisham Road, London.[1][2]
In C. S. Lewis's Narnia stories, the Bastables were briefly mentioned at the beginning of the first chapter of The Magician's Nephew.
