Macready was the surname of the elderly housekeeper of Professor Kirke's House who also acted as a tour guide when sightseers arrived to explore the historical mansion. Mrs. Macready seemed to have a strong dislike for (or, at least, a stern nature around) children and the Pevensies were always sure to keep out of her way.
