Template:Movie Template:Race Harpies were a race of bat-like creatures that served the White Witch during the Long Winter.

They were seen gathering with ogres, goblins, minotaurs, minoboars, wolves, Ankle Slicers, boggles, werewolves, White Tigers, cyclopes, and hags around the Stone Table where they watched and laughed at the mighty lion, Aslan, sacrifice himself to the witch.

One Harpy stood in front of Aslan, but flew off since it was afraid of the great lion.

During the First Battle of Beruna, when the gryphons and eagles from Aslan's Army were sent forth to attack the White Witch's Army, by dropping rocks on them, many Harpies were sent to attack and try and stop them.

One of them grabbed a gryphon, which caused both of them to fall down to the ground and die.

Another Harpy spotted and tried to stop the Phoenix that was assisting Aslan's Army, but before it could reach it, however, Peter managed to kill it with a spear that he had picked up from a dead Cyclops.

Trivia

  • In an earlier Version of the script for the 2005 Disney movie adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Harpies played a much bigger role, with an added scene where Jadis awakened them from their dwelling; a dark, twisted and corrupted tree.
  • Harpies were only featured in the Disney adaption of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; they were never mentioned in the books or seen in the other films.
  • Harpies come from Greek Mythology. They are best known for constantly stealing all food from the prophet Phineus. The literal meaning of the word seems to be "that which snatches", as it comes from the Greek word harpazein (ἁρπάζειν), which means "to snatch".
