Golden Age Prophecy
From WikiNarnia, the Narnian Encyclopedia
The Golden Age Prophecy is described as Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time and was the ancient prediction of how the Golden Age of Narnia was to occur, believed to have been forecasted sometime even before the creation of the world of Narnia (before that world's time had yet dawned). It was an incantation as follows:
- Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
- At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
- When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
- And when he shakes his mane, we will have spring again,
- When Adam's flesh and Adam's bone,
- Sits at Cair Paravel in throne,
- The evil time will be over and done.
The Golden Age began in Narnian-year 1000 when the four young Pevensie siblings ended up in Narnia as they climbed into the wardrobe of Professor Digory Kirke. According to the prophecy, Aslan's reappearance in Narnia would mark the return of spring and death of winter, after which, the formerly oppressed Narnians' spirits would be revived. The "evil time" would end with the coronation of a human as Narnia's new king or queen. As events unraveled, it became clear that "Adam's flesh" and "bone" did not refer to one, but rather, four human beings destined to become Narnia's next rulers. The four Pevensie children were those who had the power to defeat the White Witch Jadis, the unrightful queen of Narnia and end her Hundred-Year Winter. These four children would be two Sons of Adam and two Daughters of Eve.
The coronation of a human mentioned in the Golden Age Prophecy could not be fulfilled if Aslan were to die, thereby forging a magical bond between Aslan and his lion body, even after death. Thus ensured was his triumphant resurrection once Jadis murdered him at the Stone Table. In fact, it was her very belief that she had indeed killed him that led her to her downfall. Because she thought him to remain dead, she was unable to foresee his glourious return, the consequential Narnian victory at the Battle of Beruna, and her own death at Aslan's paw.
