Giant

From WikiNarnia, the Narnian Encyclopedia

Giants were a huge, humanoid race who generally inhabited the northern lands of the world of Narnia. It is possible that the world of Charn was also home to giants; it is known, for example that the royal family of Charn (including Empress Jadis) descended from a long line of half-giant, half-jinn hybrids.

Giants generally ranged from about 10 to perhaps 30 feet tall.

In the Narnian World, giants were divided into three groups: Ettins (northern violent Giants), Harfangers (northern intelligent Giants), and Narnians (southern gentle Giants).

[edit] Ettin

The Ettins lived in the land of Ettinsmoor. They were extremely unintelligent and violent by nature, fighting numerous battles with Narnia, notably the Ettinsmoor War. They also served Jadis during the Winter Revolution. They amused themselves by throwing stones at cairns. However, they were generally very bad shots. It is not known if they had a language different from Narnians, or whether they were too stupid for language. Ettins had either two heads or four arms, but never both.

[edit] Harfanger

The civilised Giants of the Great Northern Plain lived in the castle of Harfang. These giants were the descendants of an ancient race of extremely intelligent giants who ruled a great kingdom in the far north, of which the Great Northern River was only the southern boundary. The Harfangers were one of a few groups of Giants who had a system of government and a societal structure. They were renowned for their great Autumn Feast, at which they ate many things, including man pie. Their hunting parties ranged as far south as northern Narnia.

[edit] Narnian

Southern or Narnian Giants were kindly, though not known for cleverness. Notable examples include Rumblebuffin, Wimbleweather, and Stonefoot. They fought on the Narnian side in the Battle of Beruna and at the Siege of Anvard in the Golden Age of Narnia.
