Crossbows were an advanced form of bows. They are generally easier to fire, but sometimes harder to load. In the adaption of Prince Caspian, the Telmarine army used these instead of using bows.

Caspian X apparently preferred using a crossbow instead of a traditional bow in the film, as shown in a deleted scene of the movie, when he was showing off his skills to Susan.
